Private jet to Marbella: chartering via Málaga (2026 guide)

Private jet to Marbella: chartering via Málaga (2026 guide)

Marbella has no airport of its own. That single fact shapes every private aviation decision on this coast, and it explains why chartering a jet here has less to do with the aircraft than with what happens on the ground: which terminal you land at, which FBO (private terminal) handles you, and how you solve the final forty minutes to Marbella or Puerto Banús.

Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP / LEMG) is the gateway, and it has never been busier. Aena closed 2025 with a record 26.7 million passengers and handled more than 13.2 million in the first half of 2026 alone, 6.7% up on the previous year. Plans are already confirmed to almost double the terminal area, from roughly 80,000 to 140,000 m², with works falling within the regulatory period beginning in 2027.

For anyone flying privately, that congestion is precisely the argument in favour of the general aviation terminal, and for planning further ahead than you needed to two years ago.

This guide is written for travellers arriving at Marbella or Banús Rentals villa. It explains how chartering actually works, which operators are genuinely active in this market in 2026, what it costs, and the operational details you need to organise your arrival in Marbella as comfortably as possible.

How private jet rental works in Marbella

There is no “book now” button in private aviation. In practice you are choosing between four access models, and picking the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake.

The four ways to fly privately

  • On-demand charter. You pay per trip, with no commitment. The logical option if you fly fewer than around twenty hours a year. You contact a broker or an operator, give the route, dates and passenger count, and receive aircraft options within hours.
  • Jet cards. You buy a block of hours in advance at a fixed rate. Useful when you want price certainty and guaranteed availability without tying up capital.
  • Fractional ownership. You buy a share in a specific aircraft. Entry runs into hundreds of thousands of euros and only makes sense above roughly fifty flight hours a year.
  • Empty legs. Repositioning flights sold at discounts of between 40% and 70%. In exchange, there is no flexibility whatsoever on route or timing. Worth watching if your dates are open, particularly on the Málaga–Ibiza, Málaga–Madrid and Málaga–London corridors in high season.

What to include when requesting a quote

  • Departure and arrival airports, not cities: the choice of airport changes the price.
  • Exact dates and preferred departure windows.
  • Number of passengers and approximate luggage volume, including golf bags or ski equipment.
  • Any pets travelling, with their passport details.
  • Special requirements: catering, ground transfer, medical equipment, security.

A serious operator will respond with aircraft options, a closed price and the name of the certificate holder actually operating the aircraft. If the quote arrives without that detail, ask for it.

Private jet operators in Marbella in 2026

The market has consolidated significantly since 2024. These are the companies genuinely active on the Málaga–Marbella route, with contact details verified on their own websites.

Global operators and fractional programmes

NetJets

The largest private aviation company in the world, part of Berkshire Hathaway and with a fleet of over 800 aircraft. NetJets Europe is the benchmark for fractional ownership and jet cards, and guarantees an aircraft with only a few hours’ notice: the decisive advantage when plans change, which on this coast is the norm.

VistaJet

Headquartered in Malta and designed specifically for intercontinental flying, its global fleet reaches more than 1,900 airports across 187 countries. The best option if Marbella is one leg of a longer international itinerary. Also notable is VistaPet, its pet travel programme with specially trained crew: relevant on a coast where dogs travel with the family.

Flexjet

European operation based in Mayfair, London, with a tactical control centre at Farnborough and an operational centre in Malta. Fractional ownership and leasing programmes built on a young fleet (Praetor 600, Gulfstream G650) and crews assigned to a single aircraft. Flexjet also has its own European helicopter division, relevant for point-to-point transfers on the Costa del Sol.

Wheels Up

The former Air Partner charter business, now integrated into a single global platform with membership programmes and commercial flight benefits through its alliance with Delta Air Lines. Especially strong in group charter: useful for weddings, corporate incentives and large family groups arriving on the coast together.

Booking platforms and brokers

PrivateFly

Part of the Flexjet group. An online booking platform with instant pricing and a dedicated page for Málaga airport. The right starting point if you want to see options and indicative prices before speaking to anyone.

LunaJets

European broker with an office in Madrid and unusually detailed coverage of Málaga, down to FBO level. Their data shows the Citation XLS, the Phenom 300 and the King Air B200 were the most requested aircraft on routes to and from Málaga in 2025: a useful counterpoint to the idea that everyone arrives on a Global 7500.

Europair

Spanish broker operating since 2014, headquartered in Madrid, with service entirely in Spanish. Worth considering if you would rather negotiate in that language.

Air Charter Service

Global broker with extensive experience in complex and group charter. Usually the rational option for occasional flyers who do not want to commit capital to a programme.

Spanish operators

Gestair

Founded in Madrid in 1977 and the established leader in Spanish business aviation, with a base in Málaga and activity across charter, maintenance and handling. The domestic option with genuine local infrastructure.

Flapper

Operating in the region since 2016 and the first company in the market to obtain ARGUS safety certification. Offers on-demand charter, empty legs and per-seat flights across jets, turboprops and helicopters.

How to vet an operator before transferring money.

Check three things: the AOC holder actually operating the aircraft, the independent safety audit certification (ARGUS, Wyvern or IS-BAO), and whether the quoted price is genuinely all-inclusive. Landing fees, handling, catering, crew overnight allowances and de-icing are the usual sources of unpleasant surprises on the final invoice.

Aircraft categories and what they mean on this route

Turboprop — King Air B200

6–8 passengers · approximately 2h range · from around €2,000 per hour. The sensible option for short hops: Seville, Gibraltar or Tangier. Less glamour than a jet, considerably less invoice, and over distances under two hours the real time difference is minimal.

Light jet — Phenom 300, Citation CJ3

6–7 passengers · approximately 3h range · between €4,500 and €5,500 per hour. The most requested category in Málaga. It covers Madrid, Lisbon, Casablanca and Ibiza comfortably and is the balance point between cost and comfort for a weekend escape.

Midsize jet — Citation XLS, Praetor 500

7–9 passengers · approximately 4h range · between €6,000 and €7,500 per hour. The logical step up when the destination is London, Paris, Geneva or Milan. Stand-up cabin, full lavatory and enough luggage capacity for golf bags or ski equipment.

Super-midsize and heavy — Challenger 350, Gulfstream G650

10–16 passengers · over 6h range · from €10,000 per hour. Long-range territory: New York, Dubai or any transatlantic routing. Only justified when Marbella is one leg of an international itinerary rather than the sole destination.

Indicative 2026 rates. The real price depends on aircraft age, positioning, fuel, season and availability. Always request a firm quote.

Real route benchmarks

  • Málaga → Madrid: approximately one hour of flight time.
  • Málaga → Barcelona: from around €6,000 one way, roughly €10,500 return.
  • Málaga → London: between 2h45 and 3h in a midsize jet.

Bear in mind that jet card programmes raised their hourly rates by between 12% and 15% during 2025 and 2026. Any quote more than six months old is no longer reliable.

Where you actually land: Málaga’s General Aviation Terminal

This is the part almost every guide skips, and it is exactly where the private experience is won or lost.

The General Aviation Terminal (TAG) at AGP occupies the original 1948 aerodrome on Carretera del Aeroclub, completely separate from the commercial terminals. Some 1,800 m² across three floors, with its own passport control, customs, VIP lounges and direct ramp access. Getting from vehicle to aircraft usually takes under fifteen minutes.

  • Opening hours: the airport operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Individual FBO hours vary.
  • Distance to Marbella: under 45 minutes by road to Marbella and Puerto Banús; around 15 minutes to Málaga city centre.

FBOs operating at Málaga airport

What is an FBO?

An FBO (Fixed Base Operator) is the private company that handles you on the ground inside the airport: VIP lounge, customs, luggage, refuelling and direct ramp access. Several operate from the same terminal, and the level of service varies between them.

  • Jetex — premium private terminal, 24/7 operations, hangarage, concierge and helicopter operations.
  • Sky Valet — private lounges and bespoke handling.
  • Universal Aviation — full flight support, customs coordination and VIP lounge access.
  • General Aviation Services (GAS) — VIP lounges and crew rest areas, within a Spanish network of seven FBOs.
  • Aviapartner Executive — one of its eleven full FBOs in Europe, all with VIP and crew lounges.
  • Swissport Executive, AviaVIP, Air Taxis Handling, Meléndez SL and Gestair also operate from the terminal.

The broker normally assigns the FBO. If you have a preference (for privacy, for a particular lounge, for hangarage), say so when requesting the quote, not on landing.

Alternative airports to consider

  • Gibraltar (GIB): the closest to Sotogrande and the western coast, though subject to border crossing times.
  • Jerez (XRY): practical for Sotogrande and the Cádiz coast.
  • Seville (SVQ): sometimes cheaper on slots during Málaga’s peak weeks.
  • Granada (GRX): useful if you are combining the coast with Sierra Nevada.

High season: the slot problem nobody warns you about

Málaga is now a slot-restricted environment in high season, and general aviation sits behind commercial traffic in the allocation queue.

Book further ahead for:

  • July and August, the coast’s absolute peak.
  • Starlite Festival Marbella and its charity gala, historically the week with the highest density of private arrivals.
  • The elite golf tournaments on the Costa del Sol calendar.
  • Semana Santa and the first week of September.

For those windows, secure your AGP slot at least two to three weeks in advance. Last-minute requests in mid-August are frequently impossible to fulfil at any price: not because there are no aircraft, but because the airport cannot accommodate the movement.

The final forty minutes: from AGP to Puerto Banús

Landing privately and then getting stuck on the A-7 is an anticlimax. Three options:

Chauffeured transfer

The simplest. Between forty and fifty minutes to Marbella or Puerto Banús outside peak hours, considerably more on August weekends.

Helicopter transfer

Under fifteen minutes from AGP to Marbella Heliport, with six helipads distributed along the coast and landing permitted at most local golf courses. Active companies include Helity Copter Airlines (Málaga–Ceuta–Marbella–Gibraltar), Mach Helicopters, Marbella Copters and HeliAir Marbella. Flexjet Europe also offers integrated helicopter transfers for its owners.

Frequently asked questions

Does Marbella have its own airport?

No. Marbella has no airport. Private and commercial flights arrive at Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport (AGP), under 45 minutes by road from Marbella and Puerto Banús. Marbella does have a heliport, which is why helicopter transfers are common on this coast.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet to Marbella?

Indicative hourly rates in 2026 range from around €2,000 for a turboprop to €4,500–5,500 for a light jet, €6,000–7,500 for a midsize jet and €10,000 or more for heavy and long-range aircraft. A Málaga–Barcelona leg starts at around €6,000. The final price depends on aircraft type, positioning, season and route.

How far in advance should you book a private jet to Marbella?

In low season, 48 to 72 hours is usually enough. For July and August, Starlite week or the major golf tournaments, book two to three weeks ahead: what limits availability is airport slots, not aircraft.

Can I travel with my dog on a private jet to Marbella?

Yes. Pets travel in the cabin on private flights, and VistaJet’s VistaPet programme includes specific crew training. You will need an EU pet passport and a valid rabies vaccination to enter Spain. Confirm the requirements with your operator when booking.

What is an empty leg and is it worth it?

An empty leg is a repositioning flight sold at between 40% and 70% below the standard charter price. Excellent value if your dates and route are flexible, and a bad idea if they are not: they can be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice if the original booking changes.

Which terminal do private jets use at Málaga airport?

The General Aviation Terminal (TAG) on Carretera del Aeroclub, separate from the commercial terminals and with its own passport control, customs and VIP lounges. Several FBOs operate there, including Jetex, Sky Valet, Universal Aviation and Aviapartner Executive.

Is Air Partner still operating?

Not as a private jet brand. In May 2026, Wheels Up completed the global transition of Air Partner’s private jet and group charter operations to the Wheels Up brand. Air Partner Cargo continues under its original name.
