Real Club de Golf Las Brisas: discover its championship design

Marbella is internationally renowned for its luxurious lifestyle and world-class golf offerings. Among the numerous courses that adorn this region, the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas stands out for its excellent service. This club not only offers an exceptional setting for playing golf but also integrates a deep commitment to nature and well-being.

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas: an icon of golf in Marbella

Founded in 1968 by José Banús, the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas was originally named «Club de Golf Nueva Andalucía.» Its design was commissioned to the prestigious architect Robert Trent Jones, who created a challenging and attractive course.

This complexity, combined with the innovative use of Bermuda grass on the fairways and Pencross Bent on the greens, made Las Brisas a demanding course that requires precision with every shot. Golf figures such as Paul Azinger have praised its layout, highlighting it as one of the best in the world.

The club is not only recognised for its spectacular course but also for its lush natural surroundings. Renowned British landscape designer Gerald Huggan designed an arboretum with species from all five continents, transforming Las Brisas into a true botanical garden.

Host to international competitions

Over the years, the club has hosted high-level competitions, including the Spanish Open in 1983 and 1987, as well as the World Cup in 1989, where figures such as Nick Faldo, Severiano Ballesteros, and José María Olazábal left their mark. More recently, in 2023, the club hosted the Women’s Spanish Open, further solidifying its reputation and receiving recognition from Ladies European Tour golfers as the best presented course of the year.

Today, the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is a private club with approximately 1,225 members from over 30 nationalities. Its exclusivity makes it an elite destination, offering only a limited number of green fees to visitors each year. With a rich history of prestigious competitions and a unique natural environment, Las Brisas is an undisputed reference point for golf on the Costa del Sol.

A world-class golf course in Andalucía

Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, this course combines impeccable aesthetics with a strategic design that challenges even the most experienced golfers. Water hazards, strategically placed bunkers, and demanding angles require meticulous planning and precise shots to achieve the best results during each round.

The legacy of Robert Trent Jones Sr. remains intact at Las Brisas, but in 2015, renowned architect Kyle Phillips carried out a reconstruction that modernised the course, further enhancing its quality and appeal. This effort has been widely recognised, placing the club at #5 of the best courses in Spain, #21 in Continental Europe, and #71 in all of Europe, according to Golf World Magazine 2023.

Playing at Las Brisas is not just a round of golf; it’s a unique experience in a spectacular setting. Its meticulous design, impeccable maintenance, and international prestige make it a must-visit destination for golf lovers visiting Marbella and Andalucía.

Connecting with nature on the course

The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is not only renowned for its challenging design and international prestige but also for its stunning natural surroundings. Thanks to the work of English landscape designer Gerald Huggan, the course has been transformed into a true botanical garden, where the diversity of flora and fauna integrates harmoniously with the golf course layout.

Here, players can enjoy a unique atmosphere, surrounded by exotic species from all continents. From the Cape Chestnut and Thorn Acacias of Africa to the Indian Laurel and Mysore Ficus of Asia, through to the Chorisia Speciosa of America, the Green Ash of Mexico, and the Whistling Pine of Australia, every corner of the course offers an incomparable sensory experience. Furthermore, the presence of numerous palm trees and Mediterranean trees enhances the exclusive character of this natural paradise in the heart of the Costa del Sol.

Rules and dress code

To preserve the quality of play and the distinguished atmosphere of the club, a set of rules has been established to regulate access and behaviour within its facilities. As a members-only club, guests are only allowed if accompanied by a member.

There are also restrictions on the number of rounds non-members and members’ partners can play each year. Guests are required to present a handicap certificate and must adhere to the course rules, including the obligation to check in with the Starter in advance and maintain the recommended pace of play of four hours per round.

Respect for the dress code is fundamental at the Real Club de Golf Las Brisas. Players are required to wear appropriate golf attire, provided by specialist suppliers. You can purchase this at the best golf stores in Marbella.

Casual clothing such as swimwear, tennis or padel clothes, blue jeans, gym wear, or sleeveless or collarless shirts for men is not allowed. Women are also prohibited from wearing sleeveless tops. Additionally, flip-flops are not permitted in any of the facilities, although dress sandals for women are allowed. In the Clubhouse, jeans are accepted as long as they are of a uniform colour and not torn.

The club also has specific rules for the use of electric buggies, restricting their access to certain areas of the course and requiring players to respect the signage. Buggies are not allowed on tee boxes or near the greens.

Furthermore, the use of soft spikes in footwear is mandatory at all times. These rules ensure an optimal golfing experience, preserving the course and ensuring respect among players. For those needing adjustments to their attire, the club’s shop offers a wide range of appropriate clothing, making it easy to comply with the rules without inconvenience.
